When the computer starts, quite a few programs start along with it. Some of them are important while some are unnecessary and can be disabled. As we install more applications on the computer, the start up time increases and the computer becomes slower because most programs get added automatically to the start up list. So, this results in a slow computer overall.

Click on the Start button and type Run in the search box or press Windows Key+R button.
Type msconfig in the Run Box and click OK.

Run Msconfig

The System Configuration Utility will open up. Go to the Startup tab at the top.
Here you can see all the startup programs of your computer. System configuration also shows you all the basic information regarding startup programs such as manufacturer, path of file that loads during startup.

Msconfig Window

If you don’t want to run unnecessary programs which you may not use frequently like Adobe Reader or MSN messenger that startup with the computer, you can remove them by unchecking the box next to program name. DO NOT try to disable any unknown program that you are not sure. Few programs are very necessary to run while starting windows. Only disable those programs which you think are unnecessarily affecting your computer startup speed.

restart after msconfig

After unchecking all the required boxes click on the OK button. It will prompt you to restart your computer. Click on Restart. You may also exit without restarting if you want and when you restart the computer, changes will be applied and you should see a faster startup. You should now see a significant improvement in the loading time of your PC when you restart the system.
